Screening guide › Medical disclaimer
Medical information disclaimer
This website provides general educational and healthcare-navigation information for people in Ontario. Its interactive guides match your answers to published guidance; they do not diagnose, determine your individual eligibility, interpret results, recommend treatment, or provide a complete screening schedule.
What the site does and does not do
It explains screening programs and how to reach them. It is not a substitute for assessment by a qualified healthcare professional and does not replace an individualized plan you already have with your clinician or a program. Using this website or its tools does not create a clinician-patient relationship.
Symptoms are different from screening
Screening tests are designed for people without symptoms. New or concerning symptoms — for example a new lump, unexplained bleeding, pain, weight loss or a change in bowel habit — need a clinical assessment, which may or may not involve the same tests. If symptoms are severe or life-threatening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For other new or concerning symptoms, arrange timely assessment with a healthcare provider, a walk-in or urgent care clinic, or call Health811 (811) for advice on where to go.
Your history matters
Recommendations differ based on symptoms, personal and family medical history, previous test results, medications, risk factors and changes in clinical guidelines. Whether you are due for a test depends on prior results that this site does not have.
Programs and guidelines change
We aim to keep information accurate and current and record when sources were checked, but Ontario programs and Canadian guidelines change. If information here differs from an official Ontario government, Ontario Health or Cancer Care Ontario source, the official source takes precedence; discuss any difference with your clinician rather than changing an individualized plan on the basis of a web page.
